Its your blog Mike, write about whatever you want to. There are a few that will complain no matter what you write about. Personally, as much as I like to read about anything and everything about deer hunting, it is nice to see where the fellow sportsman stand on differant issues. Of course we talk on the local deer hunting site about politics and what not, but it is nice to get a nation wide perspective also. Keep up the great work.

Ahh politics, IMO it has a major part in hunting wether people want to admit or not. I love that picture, you cannot deny her appeal in more ways than one. I think shes just what the republican ticket needed. City council, mayor, govenor for vp vs a community organizer, rookie senator for pres. hhhmmmmm

3 more days to go in WI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, I finally have a reason to talk about politics. When people ask me who I'm voting for, I can respond, "I HUNT, SHE HUNTS, who do you think I'm voting for ?" Even though I think she will get more votes because she is a woman (from other women voters) vs. being a hunter. BTW Mike, you mentioned "50 Days", HEY THAT'S THE PEEK OF THE RUT, BIG BUCKS, BIG BUCKS. I have a new lease in Ohio and I am crawling out of my skin in anticipation. Shoot staight this year men.

If there were a tie on 2A Rights or any gun control bill in the Senate, where do you think she, as Senate President, would vote vs Biden? We need her there! Shoot straight Mike and all. Bow here Sat.

I'm looking forward to hearing her interview with Charlie Gibson on ABC tomorrow and Friday.

It should be interesting!

Gotta love politics!

Jim

I was one of those bitching that Big Deer is not the place for politics, but Hanback you make some good points here, so I read on, still wanting more on hunting but understanding where you are coming from my friend

I loved the photo of her in her office with the bear over the back of the sofa.

On the comments by Obama, it's not a shock to any of us except that he said it out loud in public. Not a smart move, one would think. But, has anyone actually seen this mentioned ANYWHERE? I haven't.

One otherng about Gov. Palin. My wife and I were talking about her the other day and were laughing about her sex appeal and whether it would come into play at all. We came to the conclusion that she totally has the "naughty librarian" look mastered. I keep waiting for her to let her hair down and shake it loose. lol.

I'm glad the rut will be in full swing on election day. It may take some of the pain away if Obama gets in. Gov Palin is a prime example that the American public is starving for some down to earth people in Washington.

Sarah Palin kicks azz!!! I don't care what anyone says....

Mike, someone above posted somethign similar but I feel the same way. I really enjoy reading your posts and guest blogs about hunting. Thats what got me here to the blog when it started and what keeps me hear. But I am not very well informed when it comes to politics. At all. It is nice to get a feel for your take on things as you are very involved in the hunting sport as well as all of the other bloggers. It has helped me to form my own opinions on the candidates and for the most part, made me at least feel somewhat informed :)

McCain / Palin all the way to the White House.....vote on guys and gals.

Keep the issues in mind, not personalities. Do any of us want four more years of an, essentially, Bush presidency? Do we want no changes in health care? Taxation of the middle class, of which we are almost all a part of, instead of taxation of the very wealthy? Do we want no reform of the education system of the USA? Do we want 4 more years of a terrible mortgage crisis? Do we want another 4 years of a meaningless war in Iraq when our real enemies are in Pakistan and Afghanistan? Do we want Creationism taught in our schools instead of the true science of evolution? Do you really think the dinosaurs and Adam and Eve lived together 5,000 years ago? Do we really believe that stem cell research is bad? Hell, even Senator McCain is in favor of that. Do we want to continue our downward slide in prestige in the world? Do we want to just drill instead of engaging in new research to stop our dependency on oil, which is running out? Do we really want to totally discount global warming just because Sarah Palin packs heat?
Gov. Palin is just a trojan moose to take the heat off Sen. McCain and the failed polices of the Bush administration.

And as far as the pig with lipstick remark, Sen. McCain and Darth Cheney used exactly the same analogy.

Vote change, vote Democratic. Vote for your country.

Roger, your out in left field my friend. No hard feeling but you got to be crazy. A guy thats for animal rights? Dont hunt? Take away our guns? Probably want to raise your tax to do resurch on dependency of oil?
No thanks!!

Roger, Dean, and Hanback,
What's the difference between Sarah Palin and George Bush?

Scott, I didn't mean to exclude you! The answer to the question is.........................Sarah Palin wears lipstick.

I'm sorry Rodger but I have healthcare and i don't want to pay for your bills too. Our tansition to non petroleum fuel must be gradual with a balanced approach. Your party wants to bankrupt the country first. By the way, the wealthy pay the majority of the taxes in this county. We don't need more welfare in this country. BHO say's he's going to cut taxes on the middle class, not true. He is going to hand out checks to people who don't pay any taxes...thats welfare.

Jeff.B,
You my friend are the victim of a con. The con game that has been perpetrated on the working class of America since before Reagan in 1980 has been very successful. Working people (hourly workers who make up 90% of the workforce) have not seen their incomes rise in this country appreciably since 1970, while the very wealthy have benefited from the strong "Republican" tilt the nation has been going through. Wealthy Americans have seen their incomes grow terrifically during this period. Furthermore, it appears to me that the only period since Reagan when the National Debt started heading south was during Clinton's administration. Quit trying to scare hunters by your rhetoric and spend some time doing some reading. Try starting here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_public_debt
Most Democrats including Obama have no interest in taking your guns, but please help the cause and go get lost in the woods on election day. The tactic that has been working for Republicans is "scare the people" into voting for "conservative" candidates. Read the section in the above about "recent additions to the public debt of the United States" If you have a real stomach for numbers, Geez, I can't believe I'm giving you this one but read the first paragraph here: http://www.bea.gov/newsreleases/national/pi/pinewsrelease.htm...... Listen man, I love Hanback, known him for 30 years, hunting, and the United States of America, but damn, the real numbers don't agree with your reasoning.

"Keep the issues in mind, not personalities."

Indeed, this is essential.

"Do any of us want four more years of an, essentially, Bush presidency?"

No - it has proven to be ineffective to say the least.

"Do we want no changes in health care?"

Absolutely - less government involvement would be a good start. Medicare/Medicaid, BC/BS etc. are putting our hospitals out of business.

"Taxation of the middle class, of which we are almost all a part of, instead of taxation of the very wealthy?"

Me too brother; I work hard for every penny I make and spend every dime raising a family, but I think less taxes for everyone is best. Any government is a spendthrift by nature and the money it squanders will benefit the whole country and secure our children's futures much more effectively if left in the pocket of the American people - all of them.

"Do we want no reform of the education system of the USA?"

Definitely - public schools in my town are in dire need of reform. Again, I think less regulation and standardization by the government is a good place to start here too.

"Do we want 4 more years of a terrible mortgage crisis?"

Good lord no, but I fear that we will get this with either candidate. One thing is for sure though; if the government continues to spend like a drunken sailor and digs deeper into our pockets to make up the difference, we will all be in Bankruptcy Court trying to save our homes.

"Do we want another 4 years of a meaningless war in Iraq when our real enemies are in Pakistan and Afghanistan?"

No, but pulling out as Obama proposes will create more problems than it solves. McCain knows better than most about the cost of making war and then leaving the job half done. The region must be stabilized before we can turn our back on it. To do otherwise would be unethical and immoral; especially if being there in the first place was as well.

"Do we want Creationism taught in our schools instead of the true science of evolution?"

No, but I really don't think McCain does either. Believe it or not, fundamental religious fanatics have not completely hijacked the conservative philosophy of government. Liberal politicians do like to focus on this fringe for the obvious reasons though.

"Do you really think the dinosaurs and Adam and Eve lived together 5,000 years ago?"

Now this really is somewhat condescending to say isn't it? I won't indulge it with an answer, but let it suffice to say I won't begrudge another who may hold these beliefs. I feel that it is important to be tolerant of other's religious beliefs.

"Do we really believe that stem cell research is bad?"

No...

"Hell, even Senator McCain is in favor of that."

... but neither does he.

"Do we want to continue our downward slide in prestige in the world?"

No, but I don't know how electing a socialist government is going to solve this problem. I think cultivating prosperity domestically and globally will eventually help though.

"Do we want to just drill instead of engaging in new research to stop our dependency on oil, which is running out?"

No and no ... you speak in such absolutes - we need to do both of these things if we have any hope of continuing to live as we do.

"Do we really want to totally discount global warming just because Sarah Palin packs heat?"

No, but I tend to look more to the scientific community than the political realm to form my opinions on questions of natural science. I'm not so sure McCain is opposed to seeking definitive solutions here either though. Trouble is they are still working on the answers which, for example, go back to the drilling and researching issue.

"Gov. Palin is just a trojan moose to take the heat off Sen. McCain and the failed polices of the Bush administration."

I don't think Palin or McCain are so intrinsically tied to the Bush administration as you suggest. I suppose it is politically persuasive to say that they are, but I think both McCain and Palin are very different people and politicians than Bush and Cheney.

"And as far as the pig with lipstick remark, Sen. McCain and Darth Cheney used exactly the same analogy."

Yeah, politics do suck don't they?

"Vote change, vote Democratic. Vote for your country."

I will, I won't. You bet your life on it my friend.

That's exactly what I'm talking about! Thanks for the link, I couldn't get the other one to work. - Jack

Try this one ..........http://www.bea.gov/newsreleases/national/pi/pinewsrelease.htm

Jack you raise some interesting points but you too are misinformed about the Obama tax proposals. Read this.

BTW....... A calculator exists that allows anyone to enter their income and get a rough number of what will happen to their taxes. Try it out: http://alchemytoday.com/willobamaraisemytaxes.html

Man, this is getting good!

Good points on both side and a lively, civil debate.

This is what the policians need to be doing instead of trying to come up with a 5 second sound bite for the press and sending their mouthpieces and talking heads on the cable news programs to say the same things over and over and over again!

I will offer one point though.

We (the american people) have to own a huge part in the polictics as usual from both parties. We keep sending the same people back to Washington DC (to the House and Senate) yet somehow we expect a different outcome.

How about, quit sending tired a$$ed, money wasting, partisan, only concerned with pork and re-election, politicians back to DC to do the peoples business.

These are the people who are causing the problems. These are the people who waste our money and raise our taxes. These are the people who keep getting a pass from the electorate via constant re-election.

Why?

Lamar, my old college buddy, what about the 2nd point I was making--"Even if I wanted to take them (guns) away..." Just words? Didn't I teach you anything on our late-night, beer flowing, NRA debates? If they want one they want them all.

BTW, did you see my next post on party-hardy Interior? My God what are we coming to??

http://alchemytoday.com/willobamaraisemytaxes.html

Again, this is exactly what I am talking about. McCain's plan cuts taxes for everyone, Obama's plan simply redistributes wealth. Thanks for these links they are very informative, especially the BEA report which did work with the second link by the way.

I dont care what people say, Palins hot!!!

roger you are a perfect example of why the left is not right! You cutdown the core of peoples beliefs??? THATS BS! You complain about taxes, theres alot more to an election than taxing the rich. An election comes down to peoples core beliefs such as abortion, faith, homosexuality, and gun rights among other things. These are what make people who they are, not the almighty dollar. BHO has admitted to believing in Jesus Christ and praying to him daily and Biden the same thing! These are your candidates? All their policies can be spun to what you want to believe in. And if your BHO you can even tell people different things when your in different cities.Im glad to see your in the minority on the blog and according to the latest polls your also a minority in the nation :-)

To all: Debate is good and healthy and I respect everyone's opinions here, just keep being civil, thanks

Also FYI I believe our fellow blogger Rodger lives in TX in or around where Ike is supposed to hit tommorow, let's wish him the best, be safe man!

Good luck rodger and I hope you all stay out of harms way. Its gotta be tough! Ill keep you in my prayers.

Thanks, Mike. Yeah, we got off work today early to go take care of houses, backyards, porches, etc. Expecting 84 mph winds here on the west side of Houston. Glad I don't live near the coast. I just hope the power stays on.

Uh, actually, Jake, Sen. Obama is 6 points ahead of Sen. McCain. Which is huge.

Great discussion and impassioned people. Obviosly we care about our county's future. In my opinion the fun thing to watch here is the political strategies that are being employed. The way I see it, the McCain's camp will continue to try to scare us about Obama and Obama's camp will try to connect McCain to the Bush 8 years. What do you think?

Lamar, think your pretty much right on there.

Lamar you are correct. I wish either of the candidates would do 1/2 of what they say, that my friends would be change!

Roger, We're thinking about you. All OK?
