Hog Wild

Dirty here: Thought you might enjoy a real feral hog story. Check out this little piggy my uncle killed in south Arkansas, a 600-pounder as the story goes. He knew the big porker was on his lease from all the rooting. Somebody saw the hog cross the road and had asked permission to dog hunt it, but he refused. Uncle went in there one Sunday to look for fresh sign and the big boy started chompin’ his jaws in a thicket. He tried to get down low to see if he could get a shot and the hog charged him. With nothing to climb, he shot and his bullet found its mark--lucky for him.

These damn hogs are spreading like crabgrass across the land, and most wildlife managers I know say kill ‘em all. I’ve shot a couple over the years (but no 600-pounders with chompers like that!) what about you?

Big Gun Grill

I’m not surprised 20 of you have forwarded me the Big Gun Grill, which I hear is parked somewhere in West Texas and is fast becoming an Internet hit. Real men are hunters, deer killers, grillers and meat eaters. Friend and regular blogger Chris is really salivating: “bet we could get some tenderloins and hindquarters on that baby Hanback!" he wrote excitedly. This from a guy who drove from VA to SC and back in one day this spring, towing a massive cooker he bought from a guy down there. It would not shock me if he drove out to Waco or wherever to pick up one of these S&W 500 monsters. BTW, wonder if smokes curls out the barrel when you’re grilling a bunch of rib-eyes or backstrap, that would be a cool touch?

Cougar Attack!

Got a series of photos titled "Cougar Attack on a Ram." This is the kick-ass money shot, but pictures before show the cat stalking and pictures after show the cat eating. Wild! Anybody seen these, or know where they came from, or know who took them, or what?

The BIG DEER Hunting Machine

Eric M. heard all our chatter about gas prices, greenie-weenie hybrids and Ian in Wisconsin’s Prius (he gets something crazy like 55 mpg) and so he decided to sketch us up a concept hunting rig. I think he is on to something. He ought to take his design to Toyota or Ford or GM before they go broke (God knows the Americans especially need new designer blood). I will cut a licensing deal with Eric and we’ll call it the BIG DEER hunting machine. With lifts, mud tires, AWD and cargo bed I’d bet that sucker would still get 35-40 mpg highway. The stickers are a nice touch. All we need now is a big drop-tine buck in the bed...Eric, hook us up? Don’t laugh, some big ideas have started this way :)   

6-Legged Georgia Doe

A six-legged fawn was recovered in the Everett Springs community this weekend after it sustained injuries from two dogs... “It is really an anomaly,” said West Rome Animal Clinic veterinarian Dan Pate. “It appears it had an identical twin that didn’t form all the way.” X-rays show the fawn has two distinct pelvises. To walk, the fawn uses one leg from each pelvis.

Amazing, freaky, sad. The little deer is recovering, but what will they do with it?

Bear Trashes Toyota Prius
