Lipstick Moose Hunter Makes "Newsweek" Cover

Sarah_palin_nwesweeek_4 Last time I posted politics a few of you got wedgies in your drawers. This is a hunting blog and not a political site, we hear enough of that crap everywhere else all day. We come here for relief man!

I hear that and I appreciate that, especially with buck season coming on fast. BTW, I cannot remember a fall where there was so much excitement and anticipation in the air. If your energy translates to big deer on the ground, gonna be a killer year. Still, there is a little election coming in about 50 days, just when the rut will start to kick in most places, and so I feel obliged to point out a couple of things.

1) Don’t care whether you’re a Republican or a Democrat you are a hunter/shooter or else you wouldn’t be here. Sarah Palin with a shotgun on her shoulder on the cover of an elitist rag is a good thing for us rednecks. (I cancelled my subscription decades ago when they ran a cover with a starving, dirty boy sitting on a dark street corner and cover-lined it in bold print, “Regan’s America;” funny how you never forget some things.) Also, all the pictures popping up of Palin with salmon, moose and caribou blood on her hands isn’t hurting the cause either (hunting and by association our 2A rights). I even saw a shot of her working in an office with a brown bear rug in the background. PETA? LOL.

2) One day last week in Pennsylvania a lady asked Barack Obama if he were planning a gun ban. According to this post at the Wall Street Journal he replied among other things, “Even if I want to take them away, I don’t have the votes in Congress.’’

Even if I want to take them away? Just words? Scary man.

Sarah Palin: Moose Hunter for VP

Palin_veep Like you I know nothing about Sarah Palin, 44, Senator McCain's pick for VP. But I just heard on FOX that when a reporter questioned her about Hillary's infamous "who would you want to answer the phone at 3:00 am?" ad Palin quipped that in the fall she would be up, because she often got up at 3 to go moose hunting with her dad. The guy reading the teleprompter went on to say that Palin's bio reads like an outdoorsman's journal. I also heard she is good on guns. I guess I have to take back what I said the other day, that we wouldn't have a real hunter in this election. So what do you think of the pick?

Poll of Sportsmen: McCain 45% and Obama 31%

Mccain_and_bucks A telephone survey of 1,009 sportsmen conducted on behalf of the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation found that 45 percent of hunters/fishers planned to vote for McCain and 31 percent for Obama. Asked who they'd like to go hunting with 49 percent said McCain and 27 percent Obama. The survey found that most hunters would like to vote for a candidate that hunts, but that is not going to happen. Neither McCain nor Obama hunt. Outside of long shots Huckabee (R) and Richardson (D) none of the VP candidates hunt either, so no hunters in office for the next 4 years :(
