Wow, geez man.

NICE SHIRT!!!

That's crazy stuff.

I hope you can't sell em and the wife lets you keep them!haha

Luke, what are wax rings??

Thanks Trent!

Trent-
when you find a fresh shed, one that has been dropped in the last day to last few months, there will be a thin ring of waxy matter and maybe a little hai just below the pedicle...think of it as kind of a sealer or o-ring where the horn was attached to the head. After they sit there over the summer and length of time, little bucks will eat it away or it just deteriorates. A wax ring is the best sign of a good, hard, fresh shed.

Sorry- I meant "little bugs" will eat it away...bucks on the brain I guess!

JJ theres your answer...

I knew the wax ring thing Luke! HAHA

Luke,

Why not partner up with a local craftsman/woman and let them make the lamps, chandeliers and what not?

He/She does the work, you supply the antlers and everyone makes some money.

Just a thought.

Jim

i am surprised there is any vegetation left along the Milk river.......shocked it's not grazed down to the dirt....:)

never seen a batch of horns like that......unreal

if you tell your wife she has to pitch 1 shoe for every antler you may get to keep a fair amount of those :)

Awesome collection, Luke! That is a lot of hard work in the bed of your truck. I hope you find someone to give you what they're worth.

I like the shirt as well!

Hey, after I finished my reply, I remembered the artist that made the cool bear out of pine needles and the anlter artwork. Why not try him? He's in Idaho, if I remember correctly. If he doesn't want them maybe he knows another artist that might.

Here is his website:

That is a pile of sheds! Now I can't decide whether I need to come hunt the Milk River during the fall or just come for a summer shed-hunting expedition...

Thanks for all the ideas everyone and the positive comments!
Hey flatlander-with my wife and her shoes, I would have to find more sheds! Sore subject around this house! Ha!

Thanks for the tip, Doug-I'll give it a try tonight.

Thanks, too, Jim....the SW part of the state has a lot of those type of antler craftsmen, I may try that, they usually buy thier stuff by the pound...thanks!

I'll try to get other pics of the sheds I kept for you guys if you want...we all seem to be ate up about it and it is always fun to look at that stuff isn't it!

sorry about the double post, I not so smart...sorry about the mix up on the wax rings, Trent! I am a little slow, hehe.

Hello boys - I am Luke's wife, and in my defense I have to say that if I had a shoe for every horn Luke had we'd be in trouble! For all of you feeling sorry for poor Luke getting rid of his sheds - I want you to consider that he still has a sizeable collection of the sheds he could not part with!!! Not too mention all the other collections he has related to hunting - bows, arrows, quivers, wool shirts, camo, etc. I have a small shoe collection while he needs a whole room to house his hunting stuff! LOL

Either way, I have also put in some time helping him find sheds along with our 4 year old who loves to go shed hunting! But it is just one of the many things that we aren't going to have room for when we move (at least not all of them)! And trust me, I am downsizing some of my collections as well boys!

For a sec there, I though my wife had logged in as Tara. lol. Then I read the part about you getting out there with Luke and I knew it wasn't her.

Good job both of you. You sound like great folks.

BTW, Luke, have you checked into places like Cabela's for selling your sheds? Or one of the other big hunting stores. They have tons of mounts. Maybe they buy sheds as well. Good luck.

Tara, stop whining. Those antlers are far more important than any silly old shoes.

Luke, make your choice. The wife, or the antlers? Do the right thing here!!!!

LOL!!

Luke, that's an impressive display of art bro.

Look for an e-mail from me mister...

Hell, forget the sheds, I want to arrow the one in the last post on how well deer hear! Those antlers will do just fine!!!! LOL. Really though, good luck on your truck load of horns sale ole buddy.

I have been busted fella's! Hey Big Kahuna, you may just get a shot at that boy-may have two drops this year, didn't find his sheds last year but have his sheds from 2 years ago! Dean, thanks for being on my side!
Doug-someone must have sent this to cabelas as they sent me an email telling me that they wouldn't be buying sheds for 2 years, due to their stockpile! Crazy, huh!

Wife-get off the internet and get back to work.

(how'd I do, fella's? I think I am going to go spotting some whitetail so I'll be gone when she gets home, I talk tough but she can beat the heck out of me.)

Big Kahuna-drops as in a pair of drop-tines! Shhhh, don't tell Mike.

Well Luke, Big Deer Mikey's in earlier than me this year, so your secret is safe with me. LOL. Lookin everyday for a sampling of the new pics to be produced. C'mon turn a couple loose for your fellow bloggers. And come to think of it that double drop would look incredibly good over my fireplace! Shhhhhhhhhh.

Your right on Kahuna! I'll work on the pics, been spotting some great bucks, but too far for the telephoto...will be going in deeper soon from some stands and blinds, so we'll see. Isn't this blog great! Everyone here is so dang cool.

Come on Luke, did Tara put a whuppin on ya when you got in from glassing?

I bet we all get crap for all the hunting stuff we have stashed away. I know I do. Me and my 3 year old call it the "Man Room". It's really just the furnace room, but it's ours. Stuffed to the ceiling with hunting gear. And I need it all.

Too bad about Cabela's. Keep trying, you'll find a buyer.

And you and Bigkahuna stop all that talk about hunting right in front of us. It's killing me! lol.

Get those glassing pics to Mike so he can post them up.

I didn't make it out to spot until AFTER she got home. Oh yea, I got hurt. She made me take a picture with the sheds I kept to prove a point. I sent it to Mike, we'll see if he shows us.

Spotted some shooters tonight, got my blood pumping a little bit. How bout you? Seeing anything?

I got some video, but too dark for the dig camera. I'll get you some....

I have only been in my current home a year, and lost my "man room" moving into it...but we are moving again and that house I will have a "man room" in! My 4 year old just call's it Daddy's room. She loves it too, so I guess we share it. Isn't life grand.

Man, I'll be sore tomorrow. She has a long reach and sharp elbows. I am kicking her buck out of my man room. Sucks that it's the biggest one. I think I'll put it in her laundry room. That'll teach her. I'm digg'n here...got nothin.

Luke, you are asking for it. Hopefully we can get Mike to post up those pictures. I haven't checked my cameras yet. I hung them two weeks ago. I should be able to get up and check them (and hang my last camera) next week when I go up and move some stands and cut shooting lanes. Only about three weeks until opener!

We should get soem pictures of our man rooms and have Mike post them up. I have a feeling Big Daddy would win that little contest. lol.

You must teach that daddy lovin little darling to hunt w/ a recurve and crest her own arrows!! Great posts guys. This is a pretty neat blog- only one I visit.!!

for some time now i have been crafting antler shed chandeliers for friends and family of mine and now have a few people requesting i build some for them, but i am now out of antlers to make them with. so i am willing to buy some from somebody and i came upon your forum here and thought WOW now there is some nice sheds that would work perfectly!! The problem is I dont need a whole pickup load and would not b able to afford it as well. So I was wondering if you would b willing so sell me 15 to 25 pounds of what u got there. and if so how much would u sell them for? I live in Gillette Wyo and would b willing to travel to pick them up if the distance is not too far. Please let me know if we can work something out. Thanks, Jason
