I am finally at that point in life where the killing of an animal has become secondary to the challenge of hunting it. But still, I long to kill a buck with a big drop tine someday.
I grew up in Virginia and started hunting and fishing with my dad when I was 6 years old.
My first bow was a Bear recurve.
I killed my first deer with a Sako rifle in .243 (100-grain bullet).
I graduated with honors in English from Carson-Newman College in Tennessee a long time ago (with A-plus minors in partying and hunting).
My first real job was an Assistant Editor for the NRA’s American Hunter magazine in downtown Washington, D.C. (commute from hell).
I have hunted (and shot) 15 species of big game from Virginia to Alaska to Mexico (deer, bears, wild sheep, etc. and even one wolf).
I have hunted for white-tail bucks in 20 states and 3 Canadian provinces.
My biggest buck, a Saskatchewan giant, scored 181.
I was deer-hunting Editor for Outdoor Life magazine for years.
I write for a bunch of different magazines and websites today.
I am co-host of Winchester Whitetail Revolution on the Versus channel.
I created Big Buck Zone and blogged there for 2 years before I started this site.
I am a Life Member of the NRA.
I still live in Virginia with my beautiful wife and 2 sons, both of whom hunt and fish some and are awesome lacrosse players.
I hunt for monster bucks in 5 or 6 states and at least one Canadian province each fall and will continue to do so, Good Lord willing.

Hunting and my family. Period.
